What is an IGBT power module? An IGBT is a power semiconductor module, short for insulated-gate bipolar transistor. An IGBT power module is the assembly and physical packaging of multiple IGBT power semiconductor chips into a single package. These chips are typically connected in selected electrical configurations, such as half-bridge, 3-stage, dual, chopper, booster, etc. IGBT power modules have a switching function that allows them to switch power supplies on and off extremely quickly and with high energy efficiency. IGBT power modules are increasingly becoming the device of choice for high power applications because of their many advantages in terms of switching, temperature, weight, and price/performance. |
How do IGBT modules work? IGBT power modules are used as electronic switching devices. By means of a diverter switch, direct current (DC) can be converted to alternating current (AC) and vice versa. Power conversion is important for the proper functioning of the application. Driving a motor requires three-phase AC current. On the other hand, all power storage systems (batteries) require DC current. |
